A Guide to Select the Paint Finish For Every Room

paint finish for every room

Each room of the house has a different use. You invite your guests to have tea with you in your living room and have breakfast with your family in the kitchen or dining. You have dinner in the dining room and spend most of your time in your bedroom or study or home office. We can see how each of these rooms has a different characteristic and vibe. As a result, you must consider the different paint finishes for each room accordingly.

First of all, you must know the general rules of choosing a paint finish. Secondly, you must also know which finish is more suited for a formal setting such as a home office and which is more appropriate for a bedroom to make it feel comfortable and cosy.

The texture or the finish of the paint adds a lot of character to the room. Additionally, it also changes the tone even if you try the exact same colour in two different paint finishes.

Here is a guide to help you choose the right paint texture for each room.

There is no hard and fast rule; however, each finish differs in the way it must be maintained. You must ask for a professional painter to suggest the right finish for your expectations. Here is a few suggestions for each room of the house.

Lounge Room

Your lounge room must have a finish that looks formal and smooth and is easier to maintain. This is because most of the guests spend time in this area alone. As a result, it is at a higher risk of getting stained or dirty. The ideal paint finish for this room is a satin finish. It looks very clean, is very easy to maintain and goes well with most pastel colours.

Kitchen

Your kitchen must have a finish that is highly durable and very easy to clean. Therefore, you can choose a semi-gloss finish. This is also the most active area and is susceptible to food splashes and spills. A semi-gloss finish will clean off easily if wiped immediately.

Bedroom

The bedroom is a place to rest and relax. Most of the walls of a bedroom are covered by wardrobes, photo frames, tables, etc. Therefore, you can opt for a velvet finish. This will make the room look more lively as it improves the amount of light a room receives. It is harder to clean a wall with a velvet finish, so do not use this finish in the kitchen or the bathroom.

Dining Room

A dining room can benefit from a matte finish. A matte finish decreases glare, and as many people install their entertainment centre or a television in the room, it is perfect for this room. You can also use this finish for a media room for the same reason.

Bathroom

A bathroom can also have a matte finish painting done. This will give the bathroom a balanced look by evening out of the highly reflective surfaces already present in the bathroom.
